Udo Jürgens presents his new studio album
'Der ganz normale Wahnsinn [Perfectly normal insanity]'
 

 
Three years after his last studio album 'Einfach ich [Simply me]' which was awarded gold, he is coming back with a new studio album. In addition to 13 completely new Jürgens compositions, 'Der ganz normale Wahnsinn' includes a new recording of the 1967s hit 'Mein erster Weg [My first way]' which is an emphatic statement for solid music by a thoroughbred musician. To achieve this, he invited the Berlin Philharmonic Studio Orchestra and the Babelsberg Film Orchestra as well as his own studio musicians to the studio, in order to celebrate the type of great musical gesture he loves so much. The result is a colourful masterpiece that captivates everyone with its rich instrumentation. Of course, that which has Udo Jürgens printed on it, also has Udo Jürgens in it. But apart from his typical songs and ballads with lavish arrangements, one hears a new, unusual sound, and jazzy passages from earlier in his career.
'Der ganz normale Wahnsinn' is an album full of atmosphere in which the poetic texts are skilfully sung, and is rounded off with a pinch of humorous satire in the best Udo Jürgens tradition. "I am really looking forward to be able to present this, for me, somewhat unusual sound in concert with the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra." After all these years in the rather unpredictable entertainment business, Udo seems to have come to terms with himself: "Today, I let things develop without any ulterior motive, spontaneously and without inner compulsion. That is most likely why I have become a little more authentic. Earlier on, I was certainly more of a tactician. Today, I increasingly listen into myself." 

Udo Jürgens on an ‘insane’ tour

On 1 February 2012, Udo Jürgens starts his 40 performances concert tour with the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra in Berlin with the theme 'Der ganz normale Wahnsinn'. Although the tour's theme relates to the satiric title song of the current CD, one would be absolutely within one's right to call the singer's and thoroughbred musician's 50 year long wave of success in the fast moving entertainment business ‘insane’. Gold and platinum awards for his last albums are further backed by full concert halls and open air arenas. 100 million albums sold and a concert audience of over 6 million speak for themselves.

At 76 years old, Udo Jürgens remains a creative, hard worker who is able to fascinate music fans of all age groups, and with his balancing act between satirical pop-songs and symphonic poetry, Udo Jürgens long ago reached cult status. Udo Jürgens musical 'Ich war noch niemals in New York [I have not yet been to New York]' has ensured box office success since its opening night in 2007, first in Hamburg, then in Stuttgart and Vienna. Udo Jürgens is also highly acclaimed as an author. His third book, the biographic family novel 'Der Mann mit dem Fagott [The man with the bassoon]' stayed on the fiction chart of the German magazine 'Der Spiegel' for months. After four years of work on the screenplay, the family saga has now been made into a two-part TV film by German ARD and Austrian ORF which will be screened in the autumn. Udo Jürgens continues to be appreciated by his fans, and is an ageless phenomenon who is rediscovered by a young audience year after year. The outstanding musician and composer, stylish charmer and mischievous entertainer has created wild enthusiasm and admiration for over ten years, even in his 'second life' beyond 66.
